Matt is the section manager here at Niyaa, he’s been here for the past 7 years. Today we decided to give him a few quick fire questions to get to know his desk role and what he gets up to at Niyaa every day.
Q: So, what do you do?
A: I recruit for housing associations and councils within the midlands area, mainly focusing on temporary positions with an element of permanent recruitment
Q: And what do you get up to day to day?
A: It mostly depends on job flow, if I’ve got no jobs on I’ll spend the day speaking to clients and trying to win business. If I’m stacked full of jobs then I’ll be spending day on the phones, speaking to all the candidates.
Q: How is life at Niyaa?
A: There’s a real family and community feel full of a good bunch of people. Everyone’s from different backgrounds but once we come together we’re all on the same journey. Outside of work everyone does their own thing, something completely different to the next person, but when we’re out after work together we’re all talking about similar things and getting on really well so we have the perfect balance.
Q: What's hot in housing?
A: The rising level of homelessness across the country is a big thing for us – in England this is a big problem with homelessness rising everyday, check out this article:
One that I’m really passionate about is the next generation of talent coming into the housing industry, you have people fresh out of university going into law or accounting and so on, but you don’t have people who want to come go into housing. There is recognised qualifications for it but no one seems to know about it, so I think long term that’s going to have a big impact on the industry. At Niyaa we’re really keen to pick up on this and host some events to spark the next generation, so watch out for those.
Q: Any highlights from your month?
A: I placed two candidates in temporary positions in the same company back in December and I had a call last week from the HR manager saying they wanted to place them both in full time positions. So yeah, result!
